Amy
Salter joined HAMOM shortly after finding out she was
expecting twins. She gave birth to Joshua and Jacob
on November 27th, 2009. Joshua was home by Christmas
while Jacob stayed in the NICU.
At
some point in just a week or two before giving birth,
the twins suffered from Twin
to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), leaving Jacob
deprived of necessary essentials in utero. Doctors believe
this is what ultimately led to Jacob's diagnosis of
Periventricular
Leukomalacia. From the time of his birth, Jacob
had many ups and downs. Even though Jacob had a really
rough start, he began making improvements, giving his
family more hope for his future. Unfortunately, Jacob
wasn't able to to overcome all of these obstacles. He
was returned to God's arms on January 26, 2010.
Even
in such tragedy, the Salters were able to give life.
Because of Jacob, others will live on through the organ
donations made after his passing.

YOU
CAN HELP THE SALTER FAMILY
Ken
and Amy Salter are facing medical deductibles for 2009
and 2010 that amount to $10,000*. This amount doesn't
even include any of the costs associated with laying
Jacob to rest.
Upon
the suggestion of HAMOM, Ken and Amy set up an account
at Redstone Federal Credit Union (RFCU) and named it
the "Salter Twins Donation Account." This
account will allow HAMOM and outside contributors to
make donations that will help the Salters pay for these
costs, and hopefully take at least some of the financial
burden off their shoulders, allowing them to spend more
time focusing on Jacob's twin brother Joshua, and their
proud big brother, Evan.
Anyone
can go to any branch of RFCU and make a donation by
using the name "Salter Twins Donation Account."
For those who bank at RFCU, an electronic transfer can
be made to 51002190088, the number used for the Salter
Twins Donation Account. To make an online transfer,
log into your RFCU account, click on "Transfer
Funds" then "Transfer to Another Member."
It will ask for the above account number and the first
three letters of the last name (Sal). It's very simple.
Every
little bit counts. Every five, ten, twenty or one-hundred
dollars will help Ken and Amy with these expenses without
the stress of financial burdens. Every bit will allow
more quality time with their beloved children.
Donate
to the Salter Twins Donation Account via HAMOM during
our Collection Drive
From
February 15 - March 15, HAMOM and its members will actively
seek donations for the Salter Twins Donation Account.
Those
who donate during the drive will be entered into a prize
drawing.
We
will collect donations through our members, at MOMsMart,
and by our MOMsMart consignors
who choose to donate a percentage of their profit from
their personal sales.
To
make a donation, and to be included in our drawing,
you
will need to make a check out to HAMOM. Those who donate
more than $250 will get a receipt in the mail from HAMOM.
Those who donate less than $250 can use their cancelled
check as receipt. These donations are tax deductible
because HAMOM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Every
single dollar you donate will be deposited into the
Salter Twins Donation Account as soon as the monies
have been tallied after the 3/15/2010 collection deadline.
To
see a list of the current prizes, please visit our Sponsors
page!
If
you are interested in making a donation, and you want
to be included in the prize drawing, but you don't know
if you can do it at MOMsMart
or through a member, please use our Contact
Us page. The address to mail your check is on that
page. Please be sure to include "Salter
Twins Donation Account" in the memo section of
your check. Then please fill out the form on that
page and let us know your check is in the mail. That
way, we have your email address and we will write to
you to let you know we've gotten your check and you'll
be included in the prize drawing.
Every
single donated dollar will go directly into the Salter
Twins Donation Account at RFCU.
HAMOM
and the Salters greatly appreciate all prayers and support.

It was first believed that the Salters were facing $20K
in deductibles, but it is actually $10K. This edit was
made on 1/27/10. The Salter Twins Donation Account raises
money to pay for the $10K plus Jacob's burial.
